Spring and Summer in the year of the home
Posted on April 06 2022,
Despite snow in some parts of the UK last week, summer is definitely on its way. Last month, the UK temperature even surpassed Southern Spain!
We're not quite at the factor 50 highs of April 2020 yet, but we are ready for some warmth. While we won't be locked inside this time, summer is still a time to enjoy the home, with barbeques and the kids home from school.
Spring is the perfect time to breathe new life into the house after winter and get everything ship-shape for the summer holidays. With that in mind, here's how to make the most of home decorating in spring and summer.
Get out the queue
Spring is the season of DIY!
Easter weekend and the Easter holidays traditionally bring all the customers to the retail park (and now the internet!), as homeowners across the UK spring clean, mend and fix things.
We sell our water based paints online, meaning you can skip the queue and get your paint products delivered directly to your door. Queuing in a hot and sticky DIY store is not fun!
Easter has moved a little over the last few years, have you noticed?
The US influence has meant that this is more than just religion and chocolate. It’s a time of year to decorate your home. Easter bunting, Easter bonnets and Easter bunnies are lovely themes, especially if you have young children. We do it at Christmas, why not now?
Check out Hobbycraft and the main supermarkets, who have really embraced this trend with wreaths, flowers, accessories and wall hangings.
Sort the garden
We’ve had some pretty strong storms over the last few months so there may be some serious tidying to do.
Once the lawn and driveway have been cleaned and swept, why not invest in some lovely new outdoor accessories? An outdoor rug, new lighting, or even an outdoor kitchen where you can host parties or BBQs.
Tidy up the paintwork
All houses suffer wear and tear. Even if you don’t fancy a complete paint colour overhaul, there is every chance the main traffic areas could use a touch up.
Check out the skirting boards, doors and any dado or picture rails that might look scuffed: a clean and a new lick of woodwork paint will make all the difference.
If you do fancy a change in colour, warm grey paints and earthy yellow paints are perfect for this time of year.
Keep the costs down
You may well have been keeping your entire home ship-shape throughout the winter, but if not, the start of Spring and Summer gives you a perfect chance to breathe new life into it.
Painting and decorating doesn't have to cost the earth, and there are plenty of ways to keep the costs of decorating down.
Hibernation is over, folks! Let’s do it!
