Zero VOC – what does it mean?

Zero VOC – what does it mean?

Paint brands talk about VOCs a lot.

And rightly so: VOCs are volatile organic compounds - carbon-based chemicals that evaporate easily at room temperature, releasing gasses into the air.

VOCs can be found in a vast range of products and materials that we use every day, from cleaning and personal care products, to office equipment, to carpets and furniture – even water!

Exposure to some VOCs can cause health problems, so it is the responsibility of manufacturers to keep them as low as possible – and understandably, communicate this to the consumer.

Many paint brands describe themselves as Zero VOC. They can claim this as they have 0.29%, which, according to UK marketing and advertising standards, is low enough to use this Zero rating.

We also have this level, but we follow the British Coating Federation and Global Grading standards – traces are minimal, we are the lowest possible level, but we won’t say zero, as technically, we are not. None of us are.

Paint can’t be mindful if it’s full of chemicals. It’s not going to help you feel relaxed if you’re worried about the potential impact its chemical content could have on the health of you, your children or animals.

But equally, here at Zhoosh, we wouldn’t be relaxed if we relied on marketing gimmicks.

Our paints have been independently checked and verified: they exceed industry standards and are rated minimal VOCWe get an A+ rating in European testing, which takes into consideration the full production process, all materials used and the lack of CO2 we use in our logistics network.

The ethos of Zhoosh Paints is to create honest, mindful, relaxing and sustainable paints. We just don’t see the point of sugar-coating things.

Our paints are safe for kids, safe for pets, safe for all family members. Helping you create good healthy, homes - in an honest, mindful way!
