Ideal Home - Green bedroom ideas

From soft sage to luxe emerald for a dreamy bedroom scheme.

Green naturally lends itself to biophilia, and of course plants are proven to help physical and mental health, to aid sleep. Botanical prints on the walls and furniture can continue this theme, creating a relaxing oasis that is perfect for winding down and thoroughly resting.

To ensure your bedroom feels balanced, use your green tones mindfully: contrast light and dark together or add a colour pop or pattern to a darker hue to prevent it feeling gloomy.

If you have opted for brighter greens, grey is a wonderfully grounding tone that will ensure you still have a calm energy in your space.

Ideal Home - How to paint skirting boards with carpet

Refresh your home without ripping up your carpet.

Choosing the right paint and using the right amount is very important. As gloss and eggshell paints are thick, there is sometimes the temptation to apply more paint in one go, but we would advise against this as it can still drip after you have moved on to the next section. Use two thinner coats, take your time, and the results will look a lot more professional.' - Sophie discusses painting skirting boards.

Women & Home - The secrets to creating a stress-free home environment

The right colors in your home can have a huge impact on your state of mind, helping to reduce stress and be more mindful.

Mindfulness is about being present and engaging in the moment. It is about recognizing and appreciating how you feel in the space around you. The easiest place to make this space work is the walls. A quick lick of paint can completely change a room and is a relatively cost-effective way to update things.

The way colors are used in different areas can also be used to help lift a mood, drawing the eyes towards windows and away from darker corners. Make the most of any natural light you have.

If you don’t have an abundance of natural light, create lighting that imitates it. Downward spotlights are great at flooding a room with brightness, but they can feel a little harsh. Mix it up with lamps in the darker corners, wall lights, and even hanging pendant lights to create warmth and coziness.

Ideal Home - Home office wall decor ideas

Create an inspirational display.

We don’t all have separate spaces in our houses for work - home offices are often areas within existing rooms, which is not ideal - but you can still zone the area using paint and accessories.

Either mask out the space around the desk with tape and paint in a contrasting colour or create a ‘desk board’ - like a headboard for a desk.' - Sophie shares some tips on brightening up a home office.

Ideal Home - Can you paint a radiator with emulsion?

Yes, you can paint your radiator with a good quality emulsion. It’s a really nice way to give a room a refresh without paying for new radiators, which can be costly!

We have seen a rise in homeowners painting their radiators the same colour as their walls - known as colour drenching. Our eggshell paint is suitable for use on radiators. The key to getting it right is to make sure your radiator is thoroughly dusted, cleaned and dried - and turned off! - before starting.

Getting in between the pipes can be tricky so use a thin, high-quality synthetic brush and ensure you fully prep the area with a good quality masking tape to avoid paint bleeds and smudges onto your wall. We recommend two coats and for added sealing you can apply a clear radiator overcoat after the emulsion. No heat for 24 hours after application.

Women & Hme - Paint color ideas for bathrooms

Expert advice for choosing the best shades.

Earthy beiges and soft yellows that evoke warm, sunny climates and create a calm atmosphere. Lots of plants and natural materials like wood will complement these colors, which work equally well in classically designed or contemporary styled rooms.

You can use paints and tiles together to gradually lift the colors as you move up the wall, then use the palest paint on the ceiling - it doesn’t have to be white. Large plain mirrors attached to walls leave surfaces clear but bounce the light around the room, giving the illusion of space.” - Sophie shares some top tips for blending colour and accessories to create a calming bathroom.
