Painting with Pop Music

This month, the world witnessed two pop icons reunite.

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan were finally 'back together', as the last ever episodes of the Australian soap opera Neighbours were filmed.

For TV fans growing up in the late eighties, their characters Scott and Charlene were huge: in 1988, their on-screen soap wedding was witnessed by 20 million viewers in the UK alone. The global affection felt for them kicked off two hugely successful careers: Jason is still on the West End stage today and most recently performed at the Queen’s Royal Jubilee, while for many, Kylie is the undisputed Princess of Pop, having won numerous awards and an army of fans the world over in a career that started way back in 1979.

Last time we talked about our hip hop paints, but it feels only right that we talk about pop music this week, and the way it has helped us create a range of water-based paint colours for your home.

Our eco-friendly paints are all categorised into musical genres, because for us, decorating the home is all about the senses – sight and sound both play a huge role in creating a mindful home in which to relax and live. We’re also huge fans of all sorts of music and think it’s an essential part of the decorating process – which is why we create painting playlists to make the process even more fun!

And what genre of music is more fun than pop? Often seen as the simpler sibling, the fluffier member of the musical family, pop is possibly the most universal. As music producer Paul Epworth says: 'Pop music has greater power to change people and to affect people because it's a universal language. You don't have to understand music to understand the power of a pop song.'

And we like to think it’s the same with our paints. You don’t have to understand why we created the colours, or how they work together to light a space and lift a mood – they just do. Our Pop Grey for example, is a deeper grey with a hint of colour – you can see purples or blues in it depending on how the light hits it. Pop Blue meanwhile is the same - it is rich and bright, with green and grey notes, perfect for adding a pop of colour that’s not to bright or brash.

And of course, like the rest of our paints, they are made with low VOCs, sent to you in fully recyclable packaging and completely created in the UK. So you can be sure that they will retain their popularity when it comes to sustainability.

These are neutral paints, that still add personality. Just like pop music! Easy to listen to, bound to put a smile on your face. As the name suggests, pop music is in fact the most popular music genre in the world. According to IFPI's latest Music Consumer Insight Report, 64 percent of the 19,000 consumers from 18 countries surveyed listen to pop music, edging out rock and dance/electronic music as the second and third most popular genres.

Quite right. And who better to conclude this message than Lady Gaga, who said: 'Pop will never be low brow.'

She should know.

Enjoy your music - and your home!
