Country Music and the Home

The colours themselves are evocative of a traditional English country garden – green grass, blue sky, pink roses and white fencing.
But, as you know, we name our paints after music. So, while these three paints are perfect for bringing spring colours into the home, they are also giving a nod across the Atlantic - to country music.
Country music originated in the early twentieth century among working-class Americans living in the South. Generations of musicians had blended English ballads with Celtic and Irish fiddle songs, adding influences from various European immigrants who settled nearby.
It remains huge today. Nashville's music industry contributes $5.5 billion to the local economy alone and its popularity has risen over the last few years. While the overall music industry has grown just 2.6% on streaming services compared to the base level of pre-COVID, country music has soared 15.8%, according to MRC / Nielsen Music.
This popularity could soon rise even more, thanks to Elvis. Baz Luhrmann’s biopic on 'The King' is currently attracting cinema-goers all over the world, and shows how Elvis was hugely influenced by African-American Blues, Christian Gospel and Southern Country Music. It’s potentially introducing these fantastic genres to whole new generations of younger audiences.
One of the biggest themes in country music is home. The soothing, nostalgic qualities of the genre make it feel familiar to many different social groups, regardless of their heritage. As the Queen of Country Dolly Parton says: “country music is popular, has been popular and will always be popular because I think it is a lot of real people singing about a lot of real stuff about real people.”
And being real is key to a happy home. Our water-based paints are all about colours that help you relax, be mindful, and be true to yourself, while also being aware of the world around you. That's why we only make low VOC paint, which we send in fully recyclable packaging.
And that’s also why we think there is a link with country music. Home, familiarity, feeling safe and real and secure.
Plus, it’s brilliant to listen to while painting... Try it!
